There are two methods for configuring the Benz Xentry diagnostic software<\/a> with SDconnect. We shared the first one about SDconnect configuration with Xentry wired, here we show another method to configure over the air.<\/p>\n

Preparations<\/strong>:

Note:Please note that comprehensive IT knowledge is absolutely required for this configuration!
\nIf necessary, contact your local IT administrator. (Administrator rights are always required for any changes to the network settings.)<\/p>\n

Procedures<\/strong>:
\nConfiguring the wireless operation via access point (workshop infrastructure)
\nStart the SDconnect Administration Toolkit via Windows Start > All Programs > Mercedes-Benz >
\nSDconnect Administration.
\nOn the left side you will see a list of connected SDconnect devices, if applicable. The currently
\nconnected SDconnect should be displayed with its number, the \u201cCable\u201d status and \u201cAccessible\u201d. Double -click to select this SDconnect from the list.<\/p>\n

Details of the SDconnect are displayed on the right side (see following figure):<\/p>\n

Select the \u201cRegister\/configure\u201d tab.
\nThen select your country under \u201cGeneral information\u201d under WLAN regional setting in the drop-down menu. Check the \u201cWLAN parameters, workshop\u201d box:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In this section, enter the corresponding data on your respective WLAN access point.
\nSince your wireless devices are normally configured via DHCP, select \u201cDHCP\u201d.
\nEnter the SSID of the WLAN access point (e.g. workshop).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Please note:
\nThe SDconnect currently only supports the WEP 128-bit encryption. Therefore, you must configure your access point accordingly if you are currently using a different encryption type.
\nEnter the WEP key (exactly 13 characters) in the SDconnect Administration Toolkit.
\nThe key is shown during entry but will not be readable as plain text later.
\nOnce you have entered all settings, click \u201cStart\u201d in order to save them in SDconnect.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Configuring the wireless operation for an ad-hoc connection (\u201cwireless network,road\u201d)
\nThis connection between the system and SDconnect is the recommended wireless operation type.
\nFirst, connect the SDconnect to the system via cable (i.e. Ethernet cable, USB2LAN cable or USB2LAN adapter plus Ethernet cable). Configure the SDconnect for cable operation if this has not already been done.
\nThe configuration consists of two main steps:
\n\u2013 Configuration of the SDconnect for an ad-hoc connection
\n\u2013 Configuration of the computers for the connection<\/p>\n

Configuration of SDconnect<\/strong><\/p>\n

Call up the SDconnect Administration Toolkit. Select Windows Start > All Programs > Mercedes-Benz > SDconnect Administration.
\nYou should see the SDconnect currently connected by cable with its number and the \u201cCable\u201d and \u201cAccessible\u201d status displayed on the left side. Select this SDconnect from the list. The data shown on the right is updated. Select the \u201cRegister\/configure\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

On this tab, first click the \u201cWLAN parameters, road\u201d option under \u201cGeneral information\u201d.
\nSelect your country from the drop-down list on the right for the WLAN regional settings.
\nMake sure that the \u201cWLAN parameters, workshop\u201d box is not checked.<\/p>\n

Instead, check the \u201cWLAN parameters, road\u201d box.
\nEnter a static IP address for the SDconnect that is not yet used in your workshop. In our example we use the address 172.29.127.124. Do not change the network mask.
\nChange the SSID entry from the \u201cRoad24h\u201d default value to a different value.
\nThe value for the SSID must be unique for this combination of SDconnect and system.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In this example we set the SSID value to \u201cSDconnect P2P_14\u201d, which is unique for the system and SDconnect combination.
\nTo date, SDconnect only supports WEP encoding. Therefore, you must configure your
\nAccess Point correspondingly if you are currently using a different encryption type.
\nEnter the WEP key (exactly 13 characters). The key is shown during entry but will no longer be readable later.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Once you have entered all settings click \u201cStart\u201d to confirm. The tool then shows a summary of all settings for the SDconnect including the WLAN settings.
\nNow the computer must be configured for the Peer2Peer connection (administrator rights required).
\nOpen the dialog for the Windows WLAN network adapter. Open the Windows Control Panel and the \u201cNetwork and Sharing Center\u201d. Select \u201cChange adapter settings\u201d on the left.
\nDouble-click to open the currently active WLAN connection and go to \u201cProperties\u201d, or right-click
\nthe adapter icon and select \u201cProperties\u201d.
\nIn the list of connection items, select the entry \u201cTCP\/IP Version 4\u201d and click \u201cProperties\u201d below \u201c:
\nSelect the option \u201cUse the following IP address\u201d and enter a static IP address from the same range (172.29.127.X, where X stands for a number between 0 and 254, however not the corresponding number of the SDconnect address) like for the address entered for the SDconnect before.
\nFor example, select the address: 172.29.127.130.<\/p>\n

Keep the value of the network mask and leave the \u201cDefault gateway\u201d field empty.
\nAlso, select the \u201cUse the following DNS server addresses\u201d option.
\nHowever, leave the address field empty.
\nClick \u201cOK\u201d. Close the other open dialog window.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Configuration of the computer
\nClick the icon for wireless networks in the Windows tray. The SSID that you entered during configuration of the SDconnect should now be displayed. If not, click \u201cUpdate\u201d.
\nSelect this SSID and click \u201cConnect\u201d. Then you will be requested to enter the security key.<\/p>\n

Enter the WEP key that you previously entered in the SDconnect Administration Toolkit. Click \u201cOK\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The SDconnect Peer2Peer network should then be displayed as \u201cConnected\u201d in the dialog.
\nClose the dialog.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Configuring a DoIP connection<\/strong>
\nConfiguring the network adapter for DoIP
\nAs specified before, the system environment is configured for DoIP subsequently, based on a previously configured connection with the SDconnect. Here, it is possible to configure DoIP both for a connection via cable (directly or by USB2LAN adapter) and a wireless connection, while the connection has been set up using a static IP address on the Open Shell system.<\/p>\n

Setting up the DoIP connection is carried out using a second static IP address for the network adapter which has already been installed for SD communication. Therefore, according to the specific configuration, this adapter will either be the LAN connection via the Ethernet card, integrated in the system, the USB2LAN-Adapter\u2019s LAN connection or even a wireless connection.
\nIn order to configure DoIP, please open the respective network adapter\u2019s settings: please open the Windows Control Panel and then the \u201cNetwork and Sharing Center\u201d. Please select the entry \u201cChange adapter settings\u201d on the top left. Please double click the tile for the respective network adapter.<\/p>\n

In the window, please click on \u201cSettings\u201d and then select the entry \u201cInternet protocol Version 4 (TCP\/IPv4)\u201d from the list of connection elements. Then select the \u201csettings\u201d again below:<\/p>\n

Here you may have already indicated a static IP address during the SDconnect configuration. However,please click on \u201eAdvanced\u201d below right.<\/p>\n

Please select \u201cAdd\u2026\u201d in section \u201cIP addresses\u201d and insert the following information regarding the
\nconfiguration via DoIP connection:<\/p>\n

IP address: 169.254.0.42
\nSubnet mask: 255.255.0.0<\/p>\n

The previously inserted IP address for the SDconnect (172.29.xxx.xxx or 172.27.xxx.xxx) will persist!<\/p>\n

Please close every window by clicking \u201cOK\u201d.
