ISTA stands for Integrated Service Technical Application. Way back when, during the initial development of this tool, BMW used DIS (Diagnostics Information System), and as the programs evolved and due to the nature of the file naming conventions utilized by BMW, the workshop system became known as Rheingold in the enthusiast world. Rheingold in actuality is the folder that contains the main application and data.\u00a0Rheingold\u00a0became ISTA-D (D stands for Diagnostics) and BMW\u2019s programming application (not discussed in this document) used the same nomenclature, ISTA except with a P (for programming) or ISTA-P. This document only discusses ISTA+.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021255_26350.png\" alt=\"\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021255_26350.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Eventually, based on the direction that the company is taking, ISTA-D and ISTA-P for F-\/I-\/G-\/Mini\/RR series cars will be rolled up into ISTA+ for diagnostics AND programming.<\/p>\n<p>That is, ISTA-P will contain all chassis data until around August 2017, then BMW plans to phase out all BN2020 vehicle data in ISTA-P. So, ISTA-P will be used for Programming on E-series only and ISTA+ will be everything else.<\/p>\n<p>Programming (or also called Service Data) in ISTA+ is required for programming F-\/I-\/G-\/Mini\/RR cars. BMW now provides these files as deltas to original programming (SDP) data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BMW ISTA+\u00a0<\/strong><strong>can be used to diagnose ALL cars BUT program only F-\/I-\/G-\/Mini\/RR series cars and beyond. E Series Programming is not supported in ISTA+.<\/strong><br \/>\nBMW officially breaks up the new ISTA+ application capability into two parts \u2013 Diagnostics and Programming. Following is a short breakup of each feature within ISTA+:<\/p>\n<p><strong>DIAGNOSTICS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0Vehicle identification for specific vehicle management<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0Information research for repair and maintenance<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0Guided troubleshooting<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0Software repair<\/p>\n<p><strong>ROGRAMMING:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0Software Update<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0Control Unit Replacements<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0Retrofits \/ conversions<\/p>\n<p><strong>System requirement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0Minimum system configuration is now hard coded into the program, although the standalone versions have this check removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a02.2Ghz CPU \u2013 2 core minimum, core i5 or i7 recommended<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a04GB RAM, 8GB recommended<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0Minimum 20+GB HDD free space for ISTA+ Diagnostics with ONE language, and minimum 100GB for Programming Data.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0This version has hardware check removed, however, future versions MAY not have this feature. A faster system is required.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0This version discusses included English Databases only. If more required, add to SQLiteDBs folder, which will need more space.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/search.php?keywords=bmw+icom&amp;imageField=+\" target=\"_blank\" data-ke-src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/search.php?keywords=bmw+icom&amp;imageField=+\"><strong>BMW\u00a0<\/strong><strong>ISTA+<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Installation instruction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>VARY WITH SOURCE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0While there are multiple sources to procure ISTA+ and \u201cinstall\u201d on a laptop, the following instructions apply only to ISTA+ obtained on this site, and specifically asked for and received through the Rheingold\/ISTA-D request thread. Each source has its own installation method and those are not discussed here. Versions in pictures used as examples only. Actual version may vary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong><br \/>\nDownload and run unblock.reg BEFORE downloading anything else. Then REBOOT the computer, this is a critical step.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021312_37316.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"79\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021312_37316.png\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Step 2:<\/strong><br \/>\nInstall everything in Prerequisites folder, only if you don\u2019t have a previous Rheingold installation. For 64-bit Windows, install both vcredist x32 &amp; x64 from Microsoft, if not already installed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021329_29371.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"157\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021329_29371.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em>Install the following \u2013 you can get both from Microsoft.<br \/>\nVisual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013<br \/>\nNET Framework 4.6<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong><br \/>\nDownload Rheingold.7z using MegaSync or JDownloader. Once downloaded, check whether \u201cRheingold.7z\u201d is blocked. If it is, unblock it. Right click on the file, go to Properties and if files are blocked, then you will see the unblock button as in the picture below:<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021359_62688.png\" alt=\"\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021359_62688.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong><br \/>\nExtract Rheingold.7z using 7zip ONLY. You may have to give admin privileges for extracting. Location doesn\u2019t matter, but preferred location is C:\\. If extracting to this location, you will need admin privileges for 7zip before extracting the file. To avoid future issues with admin rights etc. you can also extract this file to the root of a secondary drive, for e.g. D:\\<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6:<\/strong><br \/>\nAssuming you extracted the file to the location suggested above, create desktop shortcut from \u201cC:\\Rheingold\\TesterGUI\\bin\\Release\\ISTAGUI.exe\u201d. If not, create the shortcut from the location you extracted the files to.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021415_57925.png\" alt=\"\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021415_57925.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 7:<\/strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em>Run the following registry fixes, depending from your OS:From the Mega site, download and run the following two registry files: o Ista-prog-x64.reg<br \/>\nAlso run the following registry fixes from the C:\\Rheingold folder (scroll all the way to the bottom to see these files):<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021444_55158.png\" alt=\"\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021444_55158.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 8:<\/strong><br \/>\nRun ISTAGUI shortcut from your desktop as administrator.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 9<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When prompted for license, copy the license key from the \u201crheingold-license.txt\u201d located in \u201cC: \\Rheingold\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.cnautotool.com\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021500_10098.png\" alt=\"\" data-ke-src=\"\/images\/upload\/image\/20180817\/20180817021500_10098.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 10:<\/strong><br \/>\nIf\/When prompted for dealer ID, enter \u201c1\u201d and ignore following warnings.
