Issue :
Unable to perform software updates (i-Level update) using BMW ICOM, even though the correct software is installed.
Cause:
This issue is typically caused by unstable or excessive vehicle voltage during the programming process.
When voltage fluctuates or exceeds safe limits, the system may interrupt or block the update to protect control modules.
Solution:
To resolve this problem, it is strongly recommended to use a dedicated automotive programmable regulated power supply during programming.
- Set voltage between 13.5V and 14.2V
- Ensure stable current output throughout the update process
- Avoid using standard battery chargers, as they may cause voltage spikes
Pro Tip:
Stable voltage is critical when performing BMW i-Level (integration level) updates. Power instability can lead not only to failed updates but also risk corrupting ECUs.
